Frederick County MD
Frederick County is located in the northern part of Maryland, bordering Pennsylvania and the northeastern border of Virginia. Over 260,000 people reside in Frederick County, which crosses the boundary between the Piedmont Plateau Region and the Appalachian Mountains. The county's two prominent ridges, Catoctin Mountain and South Mountain form an extension of the Blue Ridge mountain region. The Middletown Valley lies between these two mountains.
It has a total area of over 660 square miles, geographically making it the largest county in Maryland. The county is home to Catoctin Mountain Park, encircling the presidential retreat Camp David and to the U.S. Army's Fort Detrick. It has also been the home to several celebrated historical figures like Francis Scott Key, Thomas Johnson, Roger B. Taney, and Barbara Fritchie.
Frederick County is part of the greater Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. As a result, the county has experienced a rapid population increase in recent years. Fort Detrick is the largest employer in the county, along with Frederick Memorial Healthcare System, Bechtel and Wells Fargo. Western and northern portions of Frederick County hold the strong agricultural component of its economy, and it is the largest producer of milk in Maryland. Frederick County offers a wide range of hosing options, from condominiums in the city to large historic farmhouses in the rural areas.
