Carroll County is home to approximately 167,000 and covers approximately 450 square miles.  Carroll County is a part of the Baltimore metropolitan area and the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. While predominantly rural, the county has become increasingly suburban in recent years.

Carroll County was created in 1837 from parts of Baltimore and Frederick Counties. It was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton the signer of the American Declaration of Independence.
